1) ST. Johns Wart can affect the metabolism of certain enzymes. Therefore, caution is required when co-administered with other drugs. Also, because it affects neurotransmitters, it interacts with various drugs, including other antidepressants.
2) If you drink ST. Johns Wart often, you may experience vomiting and diarrhea.
3) Hypericin can cause photosensitivity. Balsam oil causes photosensitivity, so you should use it only when there is no direct exposure to the sun and preferably in the evening.
4) Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should not take ST. Johns Wart in any form.
How to brew ST. Johns Wart tea - Dried leaves of ST. Johns Wart:
Put one teaspoonful of dried ST. Johns Wart into a warmed teapot or small casserole. Add 250 ml (1 glass) of boiling water and boil for 10-15 minutes. Separate from the leaves and drink hot or warm. Remaining leaves could be eaten. Recommended consumption for adults: 200 ml 3 times daily (30 min before meals, for 3 weeks.)
Tip: Tea efficiency is much higher when distilled/purified water is used.
